Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Legislation

The Safety, Health Welfare at Work regulation 2001 Statutory Instrument number 188 2001 states that:

  • Every portable appliance must be tested once a year.
  • The results must be held for 5 years.
  • The results must also be made available for inspection by an inspector of the HAS.

Testing Procedure

Following a visual inspection, we will complete the following tests:

  • Insulation resistance
  • Earthed continuity
  • Earth leakage
  • Correct Polarity
  • Load testing
  • Functionality check

Test Records

The test equipment automatically generates a unique asset number for each appliance tested. A label is then printed for attachment to the appliance.

All test data is uploaded to our PAT record management system, and reports produced to meet your needs.

This data can be uploaded to the test equipment when retesting the appliance in 12 months’ time. This ensures the unique asset number stays with the appliance throughout its testing life with us.

We can also supply you with the list of assets to maintain your own inventory list of appliances should you wish to do so.
